The MMM Monthly Contest Scramble & Scoring
In order to increase the activity and participation at our monthly contests we want to try an experimental special event this year called the Scramble. We have devised a scoring method where every event can compete equally regardless of rubber, glider or gas. This will give us 10-20 contestants in one big event that we can call the “Scramble”.
Scoring:
Everybody shows up to fly whatever event(s) they want to. In the Scramble concept, a 3 minute max and a 2 minute max will be counted as equal. Each model is flown to the max duration called for in it’s event rules and we record the scores normally. At the end of the contest we total maxes as maxes (regardless of duration) and the seconds as points as we do now except that in the two-minute events we multiply the seconds by 150% thus equalizing or “normalizing” the points.
At the end of the contest the highest placing flyer is awarded 100 points and each contestant is awarded a percentage of that score.
Here are some more Scramble rules:
Each contestant will have three official flights in order to make three maxes as is currently done. The usual AMA and FAI rules apply. Exceptions: Classic Tow and Mulvihull and other progressive max events will either do two or three minute maxes during the Scramble flights. The small gliders continue to have six flights to make the three maxes. Please note that each event’s rules regarding attempts apply as usual and those rules are available in the CD’s book as usual.
Those tied at the end of three maxes will have fly offs at the regular event max length until a max is dropped. i.e. P30 will continue to fly 2 minutes and FAI is 3 minutes, etc.
Fractions of seconds will be dropped as is currently done.
Note: If the contestant is flying an event where the max times escalate (such as P30) they can choose to fly the escalating maxes the events calls for if they are wanting to set a club record. For example if the 4th flight in P30 is 2:30 and the flyer only makes 2:15 they can no longer continue for a club record but they would still be qualified to continue in the Scramble fly-off.
